Pixel VFX Pack: 4 Effects x 6 Variants (Explosion, Smoke, Magic, Impact), 64x64 Sprite Strips
A downloadable asset pack
4 pixel-art effects x 6 variants as sprite strips: explosion, smoke, magic shockwave and hit impact, six variants of each (24 files).
Every strip is a transparent PNG with 12 frames of 64x64 laid out left to right (768x64 per file). Drop them into any 2D engine as a horizontal sprite sheet.
What is in the zip
- 24 sprite strips in
sprites/: explosion_1..6, smoke_1..6, magic_1..6, impact_1..6 (RGBA PNG, 768x64, 12 frames each) preview_all_2x.png: seed 1 of every effect at 2xREADME.txtwith import steps for Godot 4 (AnimatedSprite2D) and Unity (Multiple sprite mode, slice 64x64, point filter)LICENSE.txtgenerator/vfxgen.py: the Python 3 script (standard library only) that made the strips. Runpython3 vfxgen.py OUT_DIR 7 8 9to render new variations from any seed numbers.
The look
Limited fire and magic palettes with ordered dithering, smoke that grows and breaks up into dither, and sparks. Play one-shot at 12-18 fps.
Install in 3 steps
- Unzip and copy the PNGs from
sprites/into your project. - Godot 4: AnimatedSprite2D > SpriteFrames > Add frames from sprite sheet, 12 horizontal, 1 vertical. Unity: Sprite Mode Multiple, slice by cell size 64x64, Filter Mode Point.
- Play the animation once at 12-18 fps. Explosion and smoke strips end on a visible frame, so hide or free the sprite when the animation finishes.
Honest scope
- These are procedurally generated effects, not hand-animated frames. The preview images show exactly what you get.
- Alpha is on/off (no soft edges), as is usual for pixel art.
- This is 4 distinct effects, not 24. The six variants of an effect share the same overall shape and differ in debris, sparks and puff placement, so the differences are subtle. If you need more, the generator renders new seeds.
- The import steps follow each engine's standard sprite-sheet workflow; the PNGs are plain sprite sheets that work in any engine.
- The art is not padded inside the cell: on the last frame explosion strips touch the cell border with 4-12 opaque pixels and smoke strips with 14-28 (magic and impact: none). Use point filtering and an atlas gap or clamp.
- Fixed size 64x64; the generator is not a general effect editor.
